Callum Hudson-Odoi suffered a ‘serious’ injury in Chelsea’s draw with Burnley, assistant manager Gianfranco Zola has said.

Teenage sensation Hudson-Odoi appeared in considerable discomfort during the first half and had to be replaced by Pedro.

N’Golo Kante, who scored Chelsea’s equaliser in the 2-2 draw, was also taken off at half-time, replaced by Mateo Kovacic.

Speaking after the match, Zola said: ‘[The] Kante injury shouldn’t be too bad… unfortunately the Hudson-Odoi one look a serious thing.

‘We will have to wait and see but it’s not looking good. It’s a problem with his Achilles tendon. Tomorrow we’ll know exactly what the problem is.

‘N’Golo had pain in his ribs after landing on a player’s leg. He should be alright… it’s nothing serious.’

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri was sent off towards the end of the match and Zola claimed the Italian was upset after an altercation with the Burnley bench.

He added: ‘He was very upset because he has heard not good works towards him from the Burnley bench.

‘The only reason he walked over there was to get our players to go into position, he was trying to help the ref. Kevin [Friend] misinterpreted. I’m disappointed, he wanted to help him.’

On Chelsea’s performance in the frustrating draw, the assistant manager said: ‘We are unhappy.

‘There was too much time wasting. Five minutes injury time wasn’t enough to compensate. We couldn’t build important rhythm.’
