Season One of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare starts in just a few days, with new maps, weapons, and modes – and it’s all free.

Developer Infinity Ward has announced a bunch of new content coming to their most recent release, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, which is currently the best-selling game of 2019 in the US.

Referred to as Season One (implying that more content is still to come), Infinity Ward calls it the ‘biggest free content drop in Call Of Duty history’ and will come with the following:

  • Three multiplayer maps: Crash, Shipment, and Vacant – all of which are returning from the original Modern Warfare
  • New Ground War map: Port
  • At least two 2v2 Gunfight maps: Cargo and Atrium – with more to follow
  • Three multiplayer modes: Reinforce, Gunfight OSP, and Infected
  • Two new weapons: the RAM-7 and Holger-26
  • New Special Ops experiences, including Bomb Squad, Grounded, Just Reward and Pitch Black – with more to come afterwards

Specific details for the likes of the new modes are still unknown, and not all of it will be released at once, but you can look forward to a steady stream of new content from 3 December onward.

Not only that, but everyone will gain access to the content on the same day, regardless of platform, though the small print does state that season content and launch dates are subject to change.

Judging by the responses on Twitter, the majority of fans are very excited for this first season, especially in regards to the returning maps, with several citing at least one of them as their favourite. However, there are a few that don’t seem particularly impressed, expressing a desire for original and brand new maps as opposed to remastered old ones.

While all this free content will no doubt help Modern Warfare in the sales charts, it doesn’t exactly need it. It recently reached the top of the UK all-formats chart for the fourth time, beating the likes of the new Pokémon games and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available right now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
