Call Of Duty 4: Black Ops 4 Alcatraz map is live today

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 – Michael Bay would be proud

Not only does Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode have a new map but it’s free to until the end of the month – on PS4 at least.

Valve Index - the real reveal is not till next monthValve Index VR headset will be released in June, pre-orders in May

Blackout’s newly announced map should be able available for everyone to play from today, or rather everyone that has a PlayStation 4.

As with everything Call Of Duty related nowadays the PlayStation 4 gets first dibs, but the new map is live today and will be offering free access until Tuesday, April 30.

That’s by far the longest Blackout has ever been free before, with previous promotions usually only lasting a week at most.

The map is exactly what the name suggests, in that it’s based around the prison island in San Francisco. Which in turn means it’s a lot smaller than usual for a battle royale map, although there does seem to be a lot of verticality to the design.

According to developer Treyarch the map is designed specifically to encourage Call Of Duty’s traditional brand of close quarters combat, which is something of a novelty for battle royale.

There’s no launch date yet for Xbox One and PC, but if things follows the normal procedure it’ll probably be this time next month.

Around now is usually when you start to hear about the year’s Call Of Duty, but so far there’s not really been any hints – beyond vague rumours that it’s going to be Modern Warfare 4.

An unusually generous free trial
