Busy mum makes thousands after launching T-shirt business at home inspired by bad times

BEING a mum isn’t easy, especially when you’re juggling a full-time job, a four-year-old, a messy relationship and severe anxiety.

But Rachel Jobling, who was struggling with the pressures of life turned her problems into a dream come true, by starting her own business inspired by all the difficulties of her life.

Having suffered with severe anxiety for over a decade, the 31-year-old started selling motivational t-shirts online, featuring inspirational quotes which helped her get through the bad times.

And her merchandise, which are printed with slogans including ‘Mama Inspiration’ and ‘Just another magic Monday’ have been flying off the website, Glam Rocks Boutique, since launching last year.

Rachel took the leap of opening the business after meeting her partner a few years ago and having daughter Holly, which she said made her feel comfortable in her own skin again.

She told the Mirror: “For as long as I can remember I always wanted to work for myself, but just never had the confidence in myself to do it until a few years ago.”

In 2017 Rachel was off work with a chest infection when she suddenly came up with the idea of putting her words of wisdom into print.

“I was starting to feel comfortable with my anxiety,” she explained. “Rather than trying to fight it, I started to embrace it – so whenever I had a bad day I would tell myself little motivational things.”

It was these quotes that she decided to put on her t-shirts to help inspire other people, and help them see the light at the end of the tunnel too.

To date, Rachel has made £2,000 from her business – and so she says she isn’t quite ready to give up her day job as a technical administrator just yet.

“I work with an amazing team who inspire some of my tongue-in-cheek quotes,” she said. “We can all often be heard saying: ‘That deserves to be on a tee’, so I make a note of them.”

She uses an app on her phone to make the designs for two hours every fortnight before making the t-shirts with an at-home kit.

And each design takes just a couple of hours to finalise – with bespoke requests she receives through her Instagram page taking a little longer.

She added: “I’m very critical of myself and always want everything perfect, so I take my time to make sure they are exactly what I like and that I’d wear it myself.”

Rachel even has a few celebrity fans – including Sian from last year’s big brother, as well as many regular customers who keep coming back for more.

And the mother is dreaming big, hoping that in the future as the brand gains popularity that she could get her designs into boutiques on the high street, and even quit her day job.

“I see this going from strength to strength and one day I would like to go full time with Glam Rocks Boutique,” she concluded.

From one successful mum to another, this mother-of-one started a £3million trampolining business with just £200 after missing out on her dream promotion.

Last week, The Sun also spoke to a couple who delayed their wedding twice to launch their milkshake business – and now it’s set to turnover £6million.

And we told the story of how a mum went from living on the streets and begging for food to running her own £100,000 office space start-up.
