Burnley boss Sean Dyche lays into Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi over dive

Burnley boss Sean Dyche slammed diving in football after Callum Hudson-Odoi was booked for simulation in Chelsea’s win at Turf Moor.

Substitute Hudson-Odoi was initially awarded a penalty after he appeared to have been felled in the area during Chelsea’s 4-2 win over Burnley .

However, after a VAR check, referee Michael Oliver changed his decision and booked the 18-year-old England international for diving.

Dyche was disappointed to see such antics from a player still taking his first steps in the senior game – and called for tougher punishments for simulation.

“The only gripe I had with the game is that I can’t stand diving,” said Dyche. “It’s ridiculous. We had a Premier League meeting at the beginning of the season and the worst they can get is a yellow card.

“How’s that going to stop it? That ain’t going to stop it.

Dyche added: “It’s not a reflection of the game or the scoreline – Chelsea were too good for us tonight.

“That’s got to go out of the game. It’s ridiculous now.

“Young players, young players diving – I just can’t stand it.

“It’s shambolic how people dive about the place. I keep hearing the word respect, and I get shot down for saying this, I sit there amazed – respect the game.

“That is what people should be doing.”

Dyche previously had a go at Arsenal about diving following his side’s 2-1 defeat at the Emirates in August.

The Burnley boss said after that game: “It’s not encouraging for the game of football – I’m really worried for the game of football.

“People diving all over the place today – it has to go.

“The maximum you can get for a dive is a yellow card. So for every player in the Premier League they can cheat at least once a game and get nothing other than a yellow.”
