BTS smashes it out of Times Square with amazing New Year’s Eve performance

It’s not like we didn’t expect BTS to absolutely smash their New Year’s performance, but we can confirm they owned Times Square in New York overnight.

The seven-piece took to the stage for an energetic performance at Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve that saw them cover bangers Make It Right as well as finishing with their hit Boy With Luv.

And didn’t they look awesome as they did it in style?

The band – made up of RM, Jin, Jungkook, Jimin, V, Suga and J-Hope – took to the red stairs in the middle of the Square as the Army filled the atmosphere with cheers. The group flexed their pipes from 10.30pm ET in New York City’s Times Square, alongside the likes of Post Malone and Alanis Morissette, at the event hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Lucy Hale.

As they made their way to the stage the deafening cheers of the crowd filled the air and we had all the fomo.

The group was mostly dressed in sleek black ensembles (except RM’s cosy grey coat, which we need in our lives) as they showed off their famous dance moves not hampered by their warmer outfits to compete with freezing NYC temperatures, may we add.

In a video posted by the host of the evening as the band began their performance fans didn’t even notice Ryan – who is still very famous in his own right – standing in front of them as they focused on the group.

What can we say? All eyes are always on BTS.

There was no way social media was going to be talking about anything but BTS’s performance, after Army had the tag #BTSxRockinEve trending well before they took to the stage.

As they wrapped Boy With Luv, which they collaborated with Halsey on, streamers fell and covered the group in the sweet moment, as they gathered in a huddle.

The band landed in New York the day before, gracing JFK with their stylish presence as they made their way through the terminal.

It comes after the group’s label BigHit Entertainment dropped the best Christmas present last week with a cryptic photo teaser on Twitter.

The purple image (a touching nod to their fandom?) shows the upside-down reflection of seven figures standing in water. Frustratingly we can’t see faces or any more details other than seven pairs of smart shoes. The word ‘TOUR’ is at the bottom, with the caption simply reading: ‘April 2020. Stay tuned.’

Army are convinced that this means the boys might be going on the road next year. While others have the theory that it could be the follow-up album to their 2019 comeback Map Of The Soul: Persona.

After their epic performance tonight, it’s clear BTS are still at the top, so we can’t wait to see what 2020 brings.
