BTS’ J-Hope goes back in time in new video for comeback teaser Ego

BTS rapper J-Hope is the star of Outro: Ego, the new music video from the K-pop group ahead of their 2020 tour and comeback, Map Of The Soul: 7.

Fans suspected J-Hope would be next up after fellow rappers RM and Suga featured in singles Persona and Shadow respectively.

The boy group star goes back in time in the video which includes brief glimpses at earlier BTS videos, and a cute recreation of a baby picture.

It hints that Map Of The Soul: 7 will also serve as a look back at how far the boy group have come with RM and Suga’s videos also referencing earlier concepts and releases. In fact Outro: Ego samples beats from BTS’ debut album 2 COOL 4 SKOOL, released in 2013.

In typical J-Hope style, the video is positive and fun, but does include an emotional moment of him in hospital getting checked over by doctors – but they soon bring him back to life and he’s off again.

There’s also a sweet tribute to the BTS fandom, called Army, with a neon billboard bearing the fanbase’s name towards the end.

This year has been incredible for the IDOL singers so far with a guest appearance on stage at the Grammys, and the release of single Black Swan which they performed for the first time on The Late Late Show.

Stopping for a chat with host James Corden, J-Hope described their night at the Grammys as ‘special’.

‘BTS and K-pop on stage, we couldn’t believe it,’ he said.

RM chimed in: ‘It felt like K-pop was recognised worldwide by Alicia’, referring to host Alicia Keys name-dropping them in a song.

Suga added: ‘Next year we want to do a BTS stage too.’
