BTS give their ‘children’ interesting backstories as first episode of BT21 Universe drops

You may know everything about BTS, but the backstories of their ‘children’, BT21, are something of a mystery.

So we’re pretty excited about the launch of BT21 Universe.

The first episode of the series has dropped on the official BT21 YouTube series, and in it, we learn about the backstories of Line Friends characters RJ, Koya and Shooky.

All from the mouths of RM, Jin and Suga, which is a nice bonus.

Just a week before the release of BTS’s new album Map Of The Soul: Persona, the boys sat down to reveal the pasts of their characters – although they’re not too convinced about their futures.

RM said: ‘Right now, our children BT21 are growing very well’, with Jungkook quipping: ‘But they don’t have a future.’

The leader joked: ‘There’s only the present and past of BT21. There’s no future as of now.’

Jin seemed rather sad, saying: ‘Ah my heart aches’, with Namjoon continuing: ‘You see how Koya’s eyes are closed? Their future is just like what Koya sees now, blank and empty spaces.’

But Line Friends gave them instructions to flesh out their characters’ stories, so Jin, RM and Suga got to explaining.

Jin shared: ‘RJ had a town. You guys might not know this, but RJ was born with a silver spoon. RJ came from a nice family.’

He named RJ’s parents, and explained that the family became rich by shaving off their own fur and selling it.

Why does that sound so dark?

RM explained that Koya, as a koala, eats eucalyptus leaves, but doesn’t eat one leaf – a special leaf that can talk who becomes Koya’s bestie.

And finally, Suga gave Shooky a rather tragic backstory, saying that Shooky was forced to act to save his family bakery when his grandfather fell ill and couldn’t pay his hospital bills.

Yoongi said: ‘This handsome little guy, to promote the bakery and to recruit a famous patissier, goes on a trip with friends. And while they’re on their trip, Shooky gets taken away by Tata.’

Thankfully, Shooky has plenty of pals, with Suga claiming he has ‘362 friends, all from the bakery’. A popular dude.

However, our favourite part of episode one had to be Jimin mocking Suga and asking for a compliment as he was ‘the only one listening’.

Line Friends will share new episodes showing BTS discussing the past, future (if they get one), family, friends and rivals of BT21’s eight characters up until May, with nine episodes in total.
