BTS and their record label have donated an impressive $1m (£789k) to Black Lives Matter.

According to Variety, the K-pop group’s donation was transferred earlier in the week with the charity confirming receipt to Big Hit on Friday. The band is not expected to comment on their donation.

Kailee Scales, managing director for Black Lives Matter told the publication: ‘Black people all over the world are in pain at this moment from the trauma of centuries of oppression.

‘We are moved by the generosity of BTS and allies all over the world who stand in solidarity in the fight for Black lives.’

In the wake of the death of George Floyd, protests have broken out across the United States and worldwide, calling for justice.

This has led to widespread arrests, including in Minnesota, where Floyd, a black man, died aged 46 after a white police officer knelt on his neck.

Many celebrities have been pledging their support by donating to funds in need, such as helping arrested protestors make bail.

Drake showed his generosity as he donated $100,000 (£79,000) to the National Bail Out, which helps bail out black mothers and caregivers.

Meanwhile John Legend and Chrissy Teigen donated $200,000 (£158,000).

Chrissy tweeted: ‘In celebration of whatever the f*** maga night is, I am committed to donating $100,000 to the bail outs of protestors across the country.’

But when a follower slammed her for supporting ‘rioters and criminals’, she fired back: ‘Ooo they might need more money then. Make it $200,000.’

John specified that they will be donating to Movement 4 Black Lives, the National Lawyers Guild and The Bail Project.
