“In return, it’s thought Mendes wanted to be involved in all future deals regarding Sporting.
“However, despite not being involved in negotiations over Fernandes, there’s a suggestion that Mendes would still want to be paid as per the agreement he has with Sporting Lisbon.
“That could be a reason behind the delay.
“Sporting have moved the goalposts with their valuation [of Fernandes] – are they trying to cover what they might have to pay Mendes?
“Make no mistake, United will not want to cover any shortfall in their payments to Mendes.
“Sporting know how much United want Fernandes and United know Sporting have a few financial issues. This has to come to a head soon.”
