Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Bruno Fernandes that he doesn’t care about him taking risks in matches and the Portuguese shares that philosophy.

The midfielder has enjoyed an outrageously good start to his Man Utd career, after arriving from Sporting in the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old has scored seven goals and provided six assists in his first 10 Premier League games, helping United extend their unbeaten run to 17 matches in all competitions.

Fernandes is always looking to create goal-scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates, and inevitably this comes with taking some risks and giving away possession at times.

Solskjaer has spoken to him about this style of play and the Norwegian has encouraged it, with Fernandes saying that taking responsibility for scoring goals and making assists is what football is all about.

‘He talked with me in the friendly match before the restart, he talked with me after the game and said, “you took a lot of risks in this game and I don’t care, you need to keep trying because it’s the kind of game you can do and the kind of game we need sometimes,”‘Fernandes told Soccer Saturday of Solskjaer’s advice.

‘I think maybe in this moment I’m different from some other players because I risk, I miss and I will risk again.

‘I don’t care, I will risk all the time, because I think football is about risking, about taking your responsibilities and I like that.

‘I like taking responsibility to miss passes, to miss shots and to try again.’

Solskjaer has, unsurprisingly, been delighted with the impact of his January signing, saying that he has helped bring the best out of the rest of the squad as well.

‘Bruno has come into the club, seen how many good players there are at Manchester United, that we’ve helped him and how his attributes are as well, and it’s been a good little relationship blossoming and he can also feel we help him improve,’ Solskjaer said earlier this week.

‘He’s come in and lifted everyone and it’s been a very, very good start so far.’

Fernandes is yet to taste defeat in a Manchester United shirt and he will look to continue this superb record at home against Southampton on Monday night in the Premier League.

After Chelsea’s shock 3-0 loss to Sheffield United on Saturday, the Red Devils have the chance to climb above them and into the top four in the table with victory over the Saints and just three games left to play.
