Bruno Fernandes reacts to Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane Man Utd signings with prediction

Bruno Fernandes has delivered his verdict on Manchester United’s summer transfer dealings. The Red Devils recently announced the signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, while Raphael Varane is now widely expected to complete a move from Real Madrid after a fee was agreed between the sides.

Fernandes was United’s key performer last season, notching 28 goals in 58 appearances across all competitions in what was a hectic campaign.

He was many people’s pick for PFA player of the year, although he was eventually pipped to the post by Man City’s Ruben Dias.

Amid a productive summer for United, Fernandes said: “[Last season] I see an improvement on the team – the mentality, the quality.

“I think the team will improve more this season and we’re going up better and better, day by day.

“Now this is a new season, a new chance to win something & do something different.

“With the transfers or without the transfers, Manchester United will always be a tough opponent, we will try to win every competition we are included in.”

The pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be cranked up a notch after the club splashed out £73million on Sancho in a deal which was confirmed on Friday.

The 21-year-old was finally prised away from Dortmund after a transfer saga which stretched tirelessly across two summer windows.

DON’T MISS

The arrival of an out-and-out winger will undoubtedly refresh the Old Trafford attack, while the signing will be even more important given Marcus Rashford’s anticipated injury lay-off if he undergoes shoulder surgery.

Not just content to recruit up top, transfer chief John Murtough has also been busy searching for Harry Maguire’s ideal centre-back partner.

Put simply, they don’t come much more coveted than World Cup winner, Raphael Varane.

The move seemed to be bumbling along painfully slowly from United’s perspective following France’s gut-wrenching round of 16 exit from Euro 2020.

However, a £41m fee has now reportedly been agreed with Real Madrid, leaving just a smattering of formalities before the signing can be confirmed.

At 28-years-old, Varane still has his prime years ahead of him, so Fernandes is right to be optimistic about the Red Devils’ chances of obtaining silverware this season.

Despite great expectations for Solskjaer’s side, the Norwegian was recently handed a lucrative contract extension until 2024.

The baby-faced assassin will undoubtedly be given time to prove himself with United’s new talent at his disposal, but he will have to break his silverware duck by this time next year if he is to avoid serious questions over his future.
