Bruno Fernandes contract details emerge as Man Utd hammer out deal for Sporting Lisbon ace

Transfer specialist Nicolo Schira reckons the Red Devils have agreed a fee with Sporting and are preparing to hand a five-year contract to the Portugal international.

Fernandes is said to be on course to pocket £5m (€5.5m) a season should he complete an eagerly-anticipated move to Old Trafford.

Express Sport reported claims on Saturday morning that Manchester United had settled on a £63m (€70m) fee with Sporting for the 24-year-old.

And, if the switch goes through, he will become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s third signing since the Norwegian returned to the north west.

Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have rocked up at United ahead of the oncoming 2019/20 campaign.

And there could yet be more arrivals, aside from Fernandes, as Solskjaer seeks to bolster his squad further.

Snaring a top centre-back is high on United’s list of priorities given their defensive frailty last season.

And Harry Maguire is their prime target following another impressive 12 months with Leicester and England.

United are also keen on Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff, who could form a new-look midfield with Fernandes if he heads to Manchester.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, however, is adamant the homegrown 21-year-old will not be leaving his boyhood club.

“The message we want to put out is that he is not for sale,” Ashley said. “If you’ve got one like Sean – keep him.”

United are currently facing a dilemma over the future of wantaway Paul Pogba, with Solskjaer desperate for him to stay.

Real Madrid are at the front of the queue for Pogba, who cost a then-world-record £89m when he returned to United in 2016.

The Spanish giants have gone on a mammoth spending spree this summer as they look to catch up to Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

And they could free up space on their wage bill by offloading Gareth Bale, who is not in Zinedine Zidane’s plans.

Bale is all set to swap La Liga for the Chinese Super League with Jiangsu Suning offering him £1m a week to jump ship.
