Bruno Fernandes has reported for Manchester United training ahead of their opening Premier League fixture after avoiding quarantine following his trip back to Portugal.

Fernandes returned to his home country earlier in the month to report for international duty, with Portugal beating Croatia 4-1 at home in the Nations League.

It was an eventful evening for Fernandes who starred in the victory before racing off to hospital for the birth of his second child.

There were fears Fernandes would miss Manchester United’s opening Premier League against Crystal Palace due to new quarantine rules that came into effect on Saturday morning.

Under new rules, anyone arriving in England and Northern Ireland from Portugal, Hungary, French Polynesia and Reunion from 4am this morning will have to isolate for two weeks.

But Fernandes seemingly beat the quarantine cut-off as he returned to Manchester United training on Saturday.

The 26-year-old posted a picture from United’s training complex today with the caption: ‘Getting ready for the Premier League.’

Fernandes has enjoyed a brilliant start to his Manchester United career and helped the club climb to third in the Premier League following his move from Sporting in January.

Assessing the club’s targets ahead of the new season, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: ‘I’m happy with the way we improved and we developed.

Of course, after the January transfer window, we lost two important games in two semi-finals but they were the two defeats we had.

‘Those hurt, they really hurt, but the way the team caught up how many points?

Fourteen points was it to catch up with the top four, we managed to do that and it gives us a very good belief that we can kick on, move forward and improve again.

The Red Devils boss added: ‘I’m very excited. Of course, now has been a different pre-season and a different summer but it’s been a quick turnaround and we’re excited, of course.

We’ve had a few weeks away from each other but then we’ve started again.
