Bruce Wayne makes a secret cameo in 'The Joker' trailer

Did you spot it?

Bruce Wayne makes a secret cameo in the new Joker trailer, it has been revealed.

The upcoming movie, which stars Joaquin Phoenix as the titular supervillain, will explore The Joker’s origin story.

Wayne, who later becomes Batman, is seen only for a few seconds in the trailer and with no clues as to his identity is given.

According to GamesRadar, Wayne appears around the 1:45 mark of the clip when Arthur Fleck, otherwise known as The Joker, pushes a little boy’s mouth into a smile from the other side of some metal bars. That child, it turns out, is a young Wayne.

It was confirmed last year that a young Bruce Wayne had been cast for Joker. Dante Pereira-Olson, who has previously appeared in Jessica Jones and Mozart In The Jungle, plays the childhood version of the future Batman. You can see his cameo in the trailer above now.

Some fans have suggested that The Joker’s name in the new movie could be a dig at Ben Affleck, who is the most recent actor to play Batman. When Arthur Fleck is shortened to just the initial of the first name and the full surname it leaves A. Fleck.

Others, though, pointed out that the similarity had already been noted when the film was announced last year – long before Affleck vacated the role of the Caped Crusader.

Joker, which also stars Zazie Beetz, Robert De Niro, Brian Tyree Henry and more, will be released in cinemas in the UK on October 4.
