BOOZY Brits drink 108 bottles of wine or 427 pints of lager a year.
That compares with a 99-bottle or 392-pint average across 36 nations.
A report reveals the typical UK adult guzzles 9.7 litres of pure alcohol annually, compared with 8.9 globally.
It also found 64 per cent of Brits are overweight or obese — while the 36-nation average is 56 per cent.
But only 17.2 per cent of Brits smoke — compared with 18 elsewhere, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) annual review.
Overall the UK ranks 17th worst out of 44 for alcohol consumption and 25th worst out of 44 for smoking.
The review says: “Many British people lead unhealthy lifestyles. Alcohol consumption is a public health issue.”
Biggest culprits were people born in the 1950s, 60s and 70s who share a bottle of wine over dinner each night.
Dr Tony Rao, from The Royal College of Psychiatrists, said: “It is alarming that we are not addressing the harm being caused by alcohol, especially in older drinkers.”
The Alcohol Information Partnership said UK boozing levels have been falling for over a decade.
Dr Giota Mitrou, of the World Cancer Research Fund, called for subsidies on healthy food and a minimum unit price on booze.
