“A friend of ours, Laura Snapes, said this and I just thought that we should think about it.

“She said, ‘In music, male misogynist acts are examined for nuance and defended as traits for difficult artists, whilst women and those who call them out are treated as hysterics who don’t understand art’.”

The star then said his thank yous before leaving the stage.

The 1975 formed when Matt and his bandmates – Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald and George Daniel – attended Wilmslow High School in Cheshire.

Healy credits the likes of Michael Jackson, Talking Heads and My Bloody Valentine as some of the band’s musical influences.

On several occasions, the singer has spoken out about political and current affairs on stage; during the band’s Detroit gig in 2017 he commented on the Manchester Arena attack.

The singer said to the crowd: “We’re from Manchester and where we used to hang out, the actual place that we used to hang out, someone put a bomb in there tonight and then killed a bunch of kids that were going to a f****** show in Manchester.”
