Paul Potts makes an astonishing return to Britain’s Got Talent in the first ever Champions series tomorrow night as he battles with nerves, despite becoming one of the biggest classically trained stars on the planet.

The 48-year-old became the first Britain’s Got Talent winner 13 years ago, beating then six-year-old Connie Talbot, to win £100,000 before touring the world, selling millions of albums and having James Corden play him in a Hollywood movie.

But despite the success of an international superstar, Paul gets visibly anxious as he performs in front of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams. But then, that’s why he’s still one of the best-loved BGT stars in history: his humility.

Naturally, Potts is breath-taking as he closes tomorrow night’s premiere, but Simon Cowell admits the champ started off a ‘shaky’ before he pulls it back when it matters.

‘I’m not sure how this is going to go,’ Cowell stresses to the singer after a night of huge surprises from the first batch of BGT: The Champions stars.

Potts has an almighty battle on his hands tomorrow night as he goes up against Britain’s Got Talent heroes Ashleigh Butler and her new dog Sully, his former rival Talbot and Boogie Storm as well as international Got Talent superstars, Bad Salsa (India’s Got Talent), The Nelson Twins (Australia’s Got Talent), The Sacred Riana (Asia’s Got Talent), Bello and Annaliese Nock (America’s Got Talent) and Kseniya Simonova (Ukraine’s Got Talent).

Two acts will make it through to the final each week with one decided by a Golden Buzzer, which only one judge can press per episode, and a vote from the super fans who are sat in the studio audience.

Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions airs this Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
