BRITAIN is set to sign up to a new global initiative to stamp out terrorism online after the Christchurch massacre was livestreamed on Facebook.
Theresa May is expected to join world leaders in Paris on Wednesday and pledge to sign up to the “Christchurch call”.
The plan will demand tougher action against tech giants giving a safe haven to terrorists.
It follows worldwide revulsion at white supremacist Brenton Tarrant, who slaughtered 51 people in two mosques and broadcast the bloody rampage on Facebook.
The plan has been drawn up by New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern, and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Nations that sign up to the pledge will promise to ban terror material online and set strict codes on how the press can cover attacks, it was reported.
But it will reportedly not include a single set of measures that every country signs up – meaning there will still be a patchwork of laws globally for social media giants.
The bosses of tech giants including Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Twitter will attend the summit.
But Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg is set to snub the event.
