Bristol City sack manager Dean Holden after run of six defeats in a row

Bristol City have sacked manager Dean Holden after their 2-0 defeat by Reading – their sixth loss in a row in all competitions.

The result left the Robins 13th in the Championship – seven points off the top six – and comes just three days after they were hammered 6-0 by Watford.

City players that were warming down after the defeat on the Ashton Gate pitch were called in as Holden was relieved of his duties.

Holden did not conduct media interviews following the result as the Championship club prepared to make an announcement.

Keith Downing has also left the club with Holden and Paul Simpson is set to take caretaker charge.

Holden became City boss on a full-time basis in August last year after initially taking caretaker charge following the dismissal of Lee Johnson in July.

He had been Johnson’s assistant for four years having previously managed Oldham.

More follows.
