Bristol City 2-2 Wigan Athletic: Pedro Pereira rescues late draw for Robins

Chey Dunkley’s downward header put Wigan 2-1 up early in the second half

Bristol City struck a dramatic late goal for the second time in five days as Pedro Pereira denied Wigan Athletic a first away win of the season.

Pereira, on loan from Benfica, headed Niclas Eliasson’s near-post corner beyond David Marshall to rescue a point for the otherwise lacklustre Robins.

The hosts, who would have gone second in the Championship with victory, had earlier gone in front when Andreas Weimann diverted Tommy Rowe’s scuffed shot into the bottom corner.

Their lead lasted just five minutes before Chey Dunkley smashed into the roof of the net to deservedly pull the visitors level a minute from half-time.

Dunkley completed the turnaround early in the second half, heading Joe Williams’ corner beyond Daniel Bentley, only for Pereira to score his first Bristol City goal with four minutes left.

The Portugal Under-21 right-back’s late heroics followed Josh Brownhill’s 98th-minute winner against Charlton Athletic on Wednesday.

More to follow.
