Brexit plot? Nigel Farage and Piers Morgan share ‘impromptu exit meeting’ at Lord’s

Nigel Farage leader and Piers Morgan were pictured together sharing a joke at the Cricket World Cup match between England and Australia at Lord’s in London. Mr Morgan shared the picture of the smiling duo on his Twitter account, with the caption: “Impromptu meeting of the Aus-exit Party.” The picture, which was posted at 12.22pm, had already received more than 3,400 ‘likes’ and 361 ‘retweets’ at 8.30pm.

But the photo appeared to backfire, with thousands of people taking to Twitter to hit out at the two men.

One said: “Hopefully someone pings a six right into the back of one of your heads.

A second commented: “Oh look it’s ‘I voted remain’ Morgan with one of his favourite political figures.”

Another person said: “I’m going to print this out for my dartboard.”

But it wasn’t all negative criticism coming the way of the Brexit Party leader and TV presenter, with some people also praising them, albeit it in a jovial manner.

One said: “A meeting of two of the finest. The man who got Brian Lara out for a duck, knows his politics, cricket, however, not quite knows his football @Arsenal.

“And the future PM, the leader of @brexitparty_uk. I love straight talking people and these two are that.”

Another commented: “Could do a lot worse than have these two guys running the country.

“Both have a lot more idea than the two currently in the running for Prime Minister.”

Both men have been extremely outspoken in recent weeks, particularly on the Tory leadership race and the candidates’ ability to get the UK out of the EU by Halloween.

On Monday, Mr Farage revealed his Brexit Party is pretty sceptical about Boris Johnson’s pledge to deliver Brexit by October 31, warning he has been “getting ready” for a general election.

Speaking at a Brexit Party conference, he said: “This was the guy who twice voted against the new European treaty, and wrote in his column in The Telegraph that it was vassalage, that we become a slave state. I mean I rather agree with all that.

“And then despite having said all those things, in the third time of asking, he votes for it. So I’d love to know who the real Boris Johnson is, I’d love to know what he really, really, really truly believes. Our attitude, as the Brexit Party, is why would we trust anybody?

“The previous Prime Minister, she’s still there I guess, but she told us 108 times we were leaving on March 29, we didn’t.

“Boris now tells us four times in his column this morning that we’re leaving on October 31, and we are pretty sceptical about that.

“So what we’re doing as a party is we’re getting ourselves ready, this Sunday will be our first ever party meeting.”

Meanwhile, Piers Morgan claimed earlier today Mr Johnson made clear he is “worried” about the Tory leadership contest during an interview with the BBC’s political editor Laura Kuenssberg, which was broadcast last night.

Ms Kuenssberg quizzed Mr Johnson on his plans for Brexit, and the former Foreign Secretary insisted he would be able to come to an agreement with the EU to eliminate the controversial backstop from any future agreement with Britain.

Mr Morgan said the interview was “unsettling” because the former London mayor was simply “trying his normal Boris bluster” and failing.
