Brexit Party plotting to STEAL May's donors as Farage plans general election Tory WIPEOUT

The Brexit party leader said he is seeking backing from Tory donors as he sets his sights on the UK general elections. Mr Farage’s Brexit party saw defectors from the Tories – including Jacob Rees-Mogg’s sister – move to the newly formed independent party. The Brexit party is campaigning for a Brexit “that was voted for by the people”.

The party says it will contest all 650 Tory seats in Parliament.

According to a tweet from Whitehall correspondent Sebastian Payne, Mr Farage said: “For us, these European elections on May 23 are just a first step – winning a second referendum might not even be enough.”

Mr Farage said 90% percent of the party’s funding came in sub £25 donations.

The comments come as the party kicked off it’s first London press conference on Tuesdsy morning.

Party chairman and MEP candidate Richard Tice told members that over 88,000 people now support the party.

Tice also told the conference that the party’s MEPs will play a “significant role” in the future Brexit negotiating team.

Sir Tice told the conference: “A vote for the Brexit party is a vote for a WTO Brexit – no ifs, no buts.”

Ahead of this month’s European elections, Mr Farage warned labour leader Jeremy Corbyn that a cross-party Brecit deal would be “the final betrayal” – and challenged the opposition leader to a debate.

Mr Farage told Sky News’ Sophie Ridge on Sunday:“There are five million voters out there, Labour voters, who voted to leave, particularly in the Midlands, the north, and south Wales.

“I would love between now and polling to have a debate with Jeremy Corbyn about this because people are very confused about what Labour are standing for.

“I think if we can dig into the Labour vote, we can surprise even ourselves.

“I think millions of people would give up on both Labour and the Conservatives.”

Meanwhile, pressure on Theresa May to set a firm resignation date has increased ahead of a meeting today with the chairman of the powerful 1922 Committee of Tory backbenchers.

Senior Tory activists will consider the question of Mrs May’s leadership at an emergency meeting of association chairmen next month.

A revolt against Mrs May could become more likely if talks with Labour result in a Brexit compromise which would be unacceptable to Tory Eurosceptics.

This is a breaking story. More to follow.
