Brexit alert: Chief Remainer savages 'deplorable' plan to involve Queen in Brexit sabotage

The pro-remain Tory MP said it was wrong of his fellow Remainers to demand that the Queen stops a potential no-deal Brexit, according to LBC. Lord Heseltine spoke to Tom Swarbrick on LBC about recent reports that the Queen is frustrated with the current political climate. He said: “One of the most treasured aspects of our constitution is that the Monarch remains above the party clash and this headline is either intentionally or as a consequence, absolutely tailored to bring the monarchy into the middle of the most controversial constitutional crisis of my lifetime.”

“It’s totally to be deplored, the way it has happened.”

It comes as the Queen recently expressed her disappointment in the current political class and its “inability to govern”, according to The Sunday Times.

Her Majesty’s views have emerged as MPs threaten to drag her in to resolve the escalating Brexit deadlock.

During her 67-year reign, it is one of the most controversial political statements she is known to have made.

The Queen first made the comments at a private event after former Prime Minister David Cameron resigned following the results of the referendum.

A royal source has revealed her frustration has since grown.

They said: “I think she’s really dismayed. I’ve heard her talking about her disappointment in the current political class and its inability to govern correctly.”

During the interview with Mr Swarbrick, Lord Heseltine later added that he had “the greatest admiration for the monarchy.”

He said: “You can talk about whether we want a monarchy, and I personally have the greatest admiration for the monarchy.

“I strongly support the view that they should remain independent.”

In recent weeks, tensions in Parliament have erupted with talk of a no confidence vote being passed over Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s leadership.

Opposition parties, and some members of the Conservative Party, have pledged to back the motion which could see Mr Johnson ousted and a general election called.
