Brewgooder recruits 250 companies for £250,000 charity fundraising drive

Charity beer brand Brewgooder has enlisted 250 breweries around the world to make special edition liquids to mark world water day on 20 March.

The Edinburgh-based company, which already donates its profits to clean water projects, aims to raise £250,000 through its “Global Gathering” campaign. Brewers from 173 cities in 24 countries have signed up to the initiative, including companies in Iceland, Ukraine and Vietnam.

Scottish brewers taking part in the project include Black Isle Brewing, Loch Leven Brewery and cider maker Thistly Cross. Ellon-based beer giant Brewdog makes Brewgooder’s own lager under contract and is also joining the campaign.

Each brewery has committed to raising at least £500 towards the total by selling their beers. Some brewers expect to raise figures closer to £5,000 and so the combined haul could exceed its target.

Alan Mahon, Brewgooder’s founder, said: “The ‘Global Gathering’ shows what the craft beer community is capable of when we collaborate and use our shared passion to make a positive impact. It’s the beginning of a worldwide movement.

“To have 250 brewers from across the world get behind our mission is incredible, I can’t thank them enough. They will not only make people happy with their amazing beers but also [have an] impact [on] lives around the world.

“There are far too many people in developing countries who have their ambitions, dreams and potential limited by lack of access to a safe source of water. By providing clean, accessible water, we can help kids grow up healthier, stay in school longer and build better lives.”
