Brendan Rodgers believes Harry Maguire has already improved Manchester United’s defence following his world record transfer from Leicester City.

The England centre-half became the world’s most expensive centre-half when United paid £80million for his services earlier this summer.

United endured there worst ever defensive Premier League campaign, conceding 54 goals, last term but there have been early signs of improvement during the early stages of the new campaign.

Maguire was praised for his performance in the opening weekend thrashing of Chelsea and although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has failed to register a clean sheet since that 4-0 win, Maguire has continued to impress.

‘I text him now and then and wish him the best when he plays with England,’ said Rodgers.

‘He’s a remarkable guy and a fantastic player. His behaviour typified him as a man.

‘It was so difficult for him and right the way through, his behaviour was exemplary. He’s a good guy and you can see he’s made them better.’

Rodgers’ Leicester side, on the back of an impressive summer recruitment drive, travel to Old Trafford on Saturday looking to protect one of only three remaining unbeaten records in the division.

‘It’s a long season. I think we are really looking forward to a game against a top class team of a very high standard players at a great arena.

‘We’re very keen to go there and put on a good performance that can get us a good result, so the players are looking forward to a very good game.’
