Brendan Rodgers issues hands-off warning to Man Utd over James Maddison transfer

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers said that his players are not for sale in the January transfer window.

Those linked with a move away from the King Power include England midfielder James Maddison, with Manchester United interested, and left-back Ben Chilwell.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic season and his five goals and three assists have helped guide the Foxes to second in the league and seven wins in a row.

But the message is clear from Rodgers – Leicester players are not up for sale.

Speaking at the press conference on Thursday, Rodgers stated that no-one will be leaving. “I’m sure if we speak [to the Leicester hierarchy], they will have the same message,” he said.

Maddison’s impressive league performances earned him his England debut in November

The former Liverpool boss is aiming to build a strong squad for seasons to come alongside Director of Football Jon Rudkin and Chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha.

“I speak regularly with Jon and Top. It’s very clear we want to speak this squad together. We want to ensure they stay around beyond January.”

“We’ve got a top squad and we want to continue to improve,” he added.

Though Rodgers claims Leicester will not be selling in January, they could bring in new signings.

“I speak with the recruitment team a lot. It’s an attractive proposition to come to here.

“If the right player is available, I’m sure the club will do everything they can.

“But the players need to be affordable. The scouts do a great job here.”

Soyuncu is rumoured to be wanted by Manchester City

Rodgers’ warding off of interest in his star players comes after Danny Murphy said that Maddison would not turn down United if they came calling for his signature.

There has also been interest from Manchester City in centre back Caglar Soyuncu.

The Turkey international has proved to be one of the signings of the summer, filling the hole left after Harry Maguire’s £80m transfer to United.
