Brendan O’Carroll: Mrs Brown’s Boys star on sister Fiona’s death ‘She was hanging on’


Brendan O’Carroll, 64, who is best known for playing Agnes Brown in the BBC sitcom, Mrs Brown’s Boys, is said to be mourning over the loss of his sister, Fiona O’Carroll after she passed away in Canada last month. Brendan’s sister Eilish, who plays Mrs Brown’s neighbour and best friend, Winnie McGoogan, has spoken about their agony after saying goodbye.

The Mrs’ Browns Boys star said she and Brendan flew over to Canada to say their final goodbyes to their sister in March.

Eilish told the Irish Mirror how they were pleased Brendan was able to make his sister laugh for the last time.

She said: “An awful lot had to be halted for me [recently]. Sadly my sister took very ill and passed away in Canada on March 3.

“I had been out there with her for Christmas but we didn’t manage to get out until the day after she died.”

Brendan is currently married to co-star, Jennifer Gibney who plays the character of Agnes’ daughter.

Prior to his career taking off with his sitcom, Mrs Brown’s Boys, Brendan was married to Doreen, where they had three children.

The former couple’s first child, named Brendan, was born with spina bifida and tragically passed away days after he was born.

The Irish writer and comedian has since opened up about the loss of his son, Brendan and said it still tears his heart out.

Brendan told broadcaster Gay Byrne: “It was absolutely devastating.

“It tore my heart out. It still does.”

He then went on to say: “I had prepared in my mind, the white picket fence, swing in the garden, taking him to the zoo,

“I had all these things planned, but then that happened, and the plans all went out the window and I couldn’t find peace in myself.”
