BREAKING Edd Byrnes dead: Star of hit musical Grease dies unexpectedly, aged 87


Edd Byrnes has died aged 87.

Edd was the star of cult musical sensation Grease, as well as being known for his role in 77 Sunset Strip.

He died unexpectedly of natural causes in his home on Wednesday in Santa Monica, California.

The actor is survived by son Logan, ex-wife Asa Maynor and longtime partner Catherine Gross.

Son Logan shared a press statement that paid tribute to his father’s drive, ambition and talent.

He had a starring role in Yellowstone Kelly

He hosted a pilot for Wheel of Fortune

It read: “His is the story of an ambitious young kid who, in his 20s drive out to Hollywood from New York City with a few hundred dollars and a dream of making it big in the entertainment business.”

The statement added: “He soon landed a starring role on the wildly popular TV series ’77 Sunset Strip’ as the cool-talking ‘Kookie.’

“He went on the star in dozens of motion pictures and television series popular around the world, including playing the suave and debonaire ‘Vince Fontaine’ in ‘Grease’.”

Other acting credits include The Secret Invasion, Stardust, Yellowstone Kelly, Charlie’s Angels and Married With Children.

He also hosted a pilot episode of Wheel of Fortune in the seventies.
