BREAKING Derby County confirm Phillip Cocu as new manager on four-year contract

Derby County have confirmed Phillip Cocu as the club’s new manager.

Cocu has signed a four-year deal to replace Frank Lampard at Pride Park, following his return to Chelsea.

Former Dutch international Cocu, 48, will be tasked with leading the Rams to another promotion push, after the club reached the play-off final under his predecessor last term.

“I am pleased and honoured to confirm that Derby County will be my new club and can’t wait to meet with the team and the fans to start this adventure together,” declared the Dutchman.

Cocu previously won three Dutch titles in five years during his time as PSV Eindhoven manager.

Derby owner Mel Morris added: “We are delighted to welcome Phillip Cocu as our new manager.

“We are continuing to develop our philosophy at Derby County and from the first conversation with Phillip, and his team, it was very clear they share similar views.

“The fit is strong. We want to build on the momentum that we have in our style of play, our club values, and the increasingly important role of our Academy.

“Phillip and his team understand the need and benefits of this approach.”

Cocu will be joined at the club by assistant manager Chris van der Weerden, and first-team coach Twan Scheepers.

Shay Given, part of the coaching staff under Frank Lampard, remains at the club as head goalkeeping coach.
