Brazilian esports organization Imperial Esports announced it is migrating its Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) team to North America. The headquarters for the team will be in Monterrey, Mexico, from which Imperial will be competing in tournaments to qualify for Majors in the region.
Imperial Esports CEO Felippe Martins told The Esports Observer that “this action is part of an investment by our sponsors, the North American RMR [ranking used to qualify to Majors] has more vacancies and we believe in the capacity of our team to win one of them.” The organization’s sponsors are the betting websites Sportsbet.io and Gamdom.com, hardware manufacturer XPG, and electric motorbikes maker Voltz Motors.
Imperial joins its compatriots Team oNe and FURIA, which also have CS:GO rosters in NA. Regarding the choice of Monterrey as the city for its new headquarters, Martins said that it “is near the border with Texas, where it has the best geographical location with the American servers.“
Because of this move, Imperial will be out of the first stage of the Brazilian Circuit of Counter-Strike (CBCS), which is also an RMR tournament. Martins indicated to TEO that he does not reject the idea of returning to Brazil to play other CBCS events even if they’re not RMS.
