What is the world coming to when Brad Pitt admits he’s getting offered ‘less and less’ acting roles as he gets older?

The World War Z star got his big break with Thelma & Louise in 1991 and has gone on to become one of the silver screen’s most treasured talents, with accolades including a best picture Oscar for 12 Years a Slave.

While Brad is still in his prime at the age of 55 and still able to command a huge cheque for leading roles – he reportedly earned $10 million (£7.8 million) for his latest movie Once Upon a Time In Hollywood – the actor claims he’s basically past it in the movie industry.

Speaking to Australia’s GQ magazine, Brad revealed: ‘I’m behind the camera on the producing side and I enjoy that a lot.

‘But I keep doing less and less. I really believe that overall it’s a younger man’s game – not that there aren’t substantial parts for older characters – I just feel, the game itself, it’ll move on naturally. There will be a natural selection to it all.’

After accepting the inevitable fate of older actors in Hollywood, the Ad Astra star says he’s intrigued about what the future of cinema holds given the rapid success of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Brad explained: ‘I’m curious to see what the future of lm [sic] is, what shape it takes.

‘I really appreciate the streaming services because we’re seeing more and more quality projects being made. We’re seeing more writers and directors and actors getting a shot. It just tells you how many talented people are out there.’

Still, Brad hopes there’s ‘room for both’ cinema and streaming although he does joke: ‘I could be a dinosaur and not even know it, man. And the comet could be on the way.’

Dinosaurs and comets – sounds like it could be the plot of his next blockbuster movie.

Brad has enjoyed success both in front and behind the camera, with the actor’s production company, Plan B, responsible for movies like 12 Years A Slave, Selma and Moonlight in recent years.

Master Of None actress and writer Lena Waithe recently applauded Brad for using his production company to push black-led movies, while criticising Will Smith and Denzel Washington for their lack of contribution.
