Boxing news: Daniel Jacobs explains why he will beat Canelo Alvarez despite losing to Gennady Golovkin

Daniel Jacobs has vowed to prove he is the best middleweight in the world in his huge unification bout with Canelo Alvarez on Saturday.

IBF champion Jacobs will look to add the WBA and WBC belts to his collection against the Mexican superstar in Las Vegas.

Jacobs, who is considered the underdog heading into a delicately poised contest, lost a close decision to Gennady Golovkin back in 2017.

Golovkin went on to enjoy two blockbuster showdowns with Alvarez, resulting in a controversial draw and points win for the Mexican.

As he eyes the biggest win of his career so far, Brooklyn boxer Jacobs has questioned the power of his opponent and revealed why he has taken confidence from his Golovkin defeat.

Daniel Jacobs says he has taken plenty of confidence from his 2017 defeat to Golovkin

“People said GGG hit too hard and I took everything he had and there’s no way that Canelo hits that hard,” Jacobs told Sky Sports .

“He’s a smaller middleweight than me and I may have to adjust to his size and speed in the early going, but even though he holds most of the belts and it’s largely his titles we’re fighting for, I already see myself as the best middleweight out there and the whole world will agree with me after I’ve defeated Canelo.

“One hundred percent I’m the best middleweight out there right now.

Jacobs has questioned the punching power of Canelo Alvarez

“I went in there with Golovkin, the monster who no one wanted to face, and most would agree that I was the one who boxed better throughout and that my hand should’ve been raised.

“Golovkin has then gone on to defeat Canelo twice in my opinion, and although the official results say otherwise, I take a lot from my fight with Golovkin, and Golovkin’s fights with Canelo to believe that I’m the best middleweight there is right now.

“May 4th in Vegas is when you see me make it official.”
