Borussia Dortmund executive Carsten Cramer believes player transfer valuations may fall due to the coronavirus crisis, handing Manchester United a potential boost in their pursuit of top summer target Jadon Sancho.

United have been strongly linked with a move for the 20-year-old winger, who is reportedly keen on a return to the Premier League.

One major sticking point has been the astronomical £120 million fee the Bundesliga side are demanding for Sancho, especially given the financial uncertainty prompted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, Dortmund’s managing director Cramer suggested clubs will now have to be more ‘flexible’ when negotiating transfer fees, which may force the club to lower their asking price for the England international.

‘Usually, at this time of year the squad for next season is already done,’ he told the Leaders in Sport’s online forum.

‘Maybe you sell some players but the plans are done.

‘Everyone has to be as flexible as possible. I’m very sure the business on loans will become of higher relevance than periods before, and for sure it will take a longer time to plan your squad.

‘I’m very, very sure that not on July 1 or even August 1 your team is done. Flexibility is very important, patience will be important.

‘I’m very sure the expectations of high fees will go down as well.’

Sancho’s incredible performances this season have also attracted interest from Chelsea and Premier League leaders Liverpool.

The winger has scored 17 goals in all competitions for Dortmund this season, and ex-United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes the England star could even win the Ballon d’Or at Old Trafford.

‘Can he become a Ballon d’Or winner? Yes, because potentially he is off the charts,’ Hargreaves said.

‘The impact he has had already has been quite astonishing.’
