BORIS Johnson’s security team made just one request ahead of his This Morning appearance — no Piers Morgan.

Two officers inspected the ITV studios 24 hours before the PM was due to be quizzed on the sofa by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

One of the officers demanded to know where Good Morning Britain host Piers’s dressing room was and asked for Mr Johnson to be placed at the other end of the corridor.

His team also requested that he should film on a Thursday when Piers was not at work in London’s White City studios for his breakfast show.

Wednesday’s security showdown came ahead of the PM’s first This Morning sofa chat the next day to discuss the coronavirus outbreak.

A source said last night: “Piers has form for making guests squirm and making them say things they later come to rue.

“Boris has repeatedly refused to appear on GMB despite numerous requests from researchers, bookers and even Piers himself.

“So when police checked out the studios to ensure they were safe, nervous Boris’s team wanted reassurance that Piers wouldn’t pounce on Boris behind the scenes or put him on the spot again live on air. He was terrified.”

The PM’s Piers-dodging came after he refused to be questioned by the broadcaster during December’s General Election campaign.

Despite Piers’s repeated requests for an interview, Mr Johnson declined.

On one occasion, the PM was seen darting into a fridge to avoid being interrogated by the host.
