Boris Johnson's pregnant fiancé Carrie Symonds banned from visiting him

Boris Johnson’s heavily pregnant fiancee Carrie Symonds is barred from visiting the PM as he battles coronavirus in intensive care.

The 32-year-old former political adviser is just weeks away from giving birth and previously revealed she was also struck down by the killer bug last week.

Mr Johnson, 55, was rushed into ICU at St Thomas’ Hospital in central last night and his partner is unable to see him due to her pregnancy and because visitors are banned.

Prior to being diagnosed with Covid-19 almost two weeks ago – which saw the PM quarantining at Number 10 – the couple have barely seen each other.

Mr Johnson had been giving daily conferences and holding endless meetings to discuss the growing pandemic before testing positive.

Their hour a day meetings were cut to zero.

Miss Symonds, who previously served as head of communications for the Conservative Party headquarters, took to Twitter over the weekend to reveal she had been bedridden with the symptoms herself.

The mum-to-be – who usually lives with the Prime Minister in the No 11 flat – also previously shared a photograph of herself self-isolating in Camberwell, south London, with the couple’s dog Dilyn.

She is understood to have since been staying with her mum in East Sheen, south west London.

There is currently no evidence Covid-19 can harm an unborn baby but medical and scientific understanding of the disease is still very small.

However, due to the couple’s conditions they cannot see each other.

Miss Symonds is the first unmarried partner of a prime minister to reside in 10 Downing Street and there was much scepticism when her affair with Mr Johnson – who was still married to second wife Marina Wheeler – came to light.

On February 29 they then announced they were engaged and expecting a child in mid-2020.

The Prime Minister, meanwhile, is said to be conscious and not on a ventilator, having been admitted to hospital on Sunday night as his condition worsened.

The couple had initially caused controversy when their affair came to light

He had been due to come out of self isolation last Friday but remained holed up as he was still displaying symptoms, which apparently included a cough and fever.

Mr Johnson was then moved to the ICU at around 7pm last night after experiencing breathing difficulties which required him to be given oxygen.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab – who earlier said the PM was in “good spirits” –  has been instructed to deputise for Mr Johnson.

A statement from Downing Street said: “Since Sunday evening, the Prime Minister has been under the care of doctors at St Thomas’ Hospital, in London, after being admitted with persistent symptoms of coronavirus.

“Over the course of this afternoon, the condition of the Prime Minister has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.

“The PM has asked Foreign Secretary  Dominic Raab, who is the First Secretary of State, to deputise for him where necessary.

“The PM is receiving excellent care, and thanks all NHS staff for their hard work and dedication.”

Buckingham Palace said  the Queen is being kept up-to-date on Mr Johnson’s condition.

Just hours before he was moved, Mr Johnson tweeted: “I’m in good spirits and keeping in touch with my team, as we work together to fight this virus and keep everyone safe.”
