Boris Johnson’s girlfriend Carrie Symonds could meet the Queen at Balmoral despite PM’s divorce from estranged wife not complete

BORIS Johnson’s girlfriend Carrie Symonds could meet the Queen at Balmoral, it has been reported.

The Prime Minister and their partner traditionally visit the Monarch’s estate every August as Downing Street and Buckingham Palace are said to discuss the trip this week.

Ms Symonds, 31, is moving into the flat above No 11 Downing Street with Bojo, after he became the country’s new leader.

The PM has not finalised his divorce with estranged wife Marina Wheeler.

A Downing Street source told the Mail On Sunday a final decision had not been made, but the possibility has not been ruled out either.

A Whitehall source added: “This is 2019, not 1920.

The Queen’s two-month break at Balmoral in Aberdeenshire had to be delayed so that she could oversee the transfer of power from Theresa May to Mr Johnson at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday but she is understood to have travelled to Scotland later that evening.”

Ms Symonds could be in the US during this time as she works as a campaigner for the transatlantic environment group Oceana.

ROYAL PROTOCOL

After weeks of speculation, Ms Symonds stood with aides as Mr Johnson delivered his first speech as PM in Downing Street.

The couple are planning to get a dog to live with them at Downing Street, but have stressed it will have to get along with Chief mouser Larry the cat.

Larry is regularly seen with Foreign Office mouser Palmerston.

Both Whitehall moggies were rescued from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home – where the new pooch could come from too.

And the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home published a list of current dogs available for Boris to pick.

The new PM asked No10 staffers if they would be happy to get a pet dog for the building and the response was a resounding “yes” according to one source.

The insider said: “It wouldn’t be a puppy. It would probably be a rescue dog. It would have to be a cat and dog that got along.”

The 55-year-old has given the Conservatives a boost with voters, as a recent poll shows a five-point leader over the Labour Party.

Mr Johnson has already given his party widespread popular appeal, despite becoming Prime Minister on July 24.

The Sunday Times newspaper said the “Boris bounce” had pushed support for Johnson’s Conservatives to 31%, up six percentage points from the previous poll, while Labour was on 21%, up two points.

The poll gave the Conservatives their biggest lead over the opposition in five months and it was the first time their support has risen above 30% since April, the paper added.

The Liberal Democrats were down three points on 20 per cent and the new Brexit Party, led by veteran eurosceptic Nigel Farage, was down four points on 13 per cent, half its peak level in May.

YouGov questioned 1,697 adults on July 25 and 26.
