The East Midlands and South West came out top, seeing their funding soar by 5 per cent – or around £175million.

The South East is next with a funding increase of 4.8 per cent, or £282million.

The money was targeted at areas most in need because their schools had historically been underfunded, the Department for Education said.

Under the plan, every secondary school will get at least £5,000 per pupil next year.

Primary schools will get a minimum of £4,000 from 2021-22.

Schools will find out exactly how much they will get, but they will all see their funding go up.

Hailing the cash, Boris said: “I promised on my first day in Downing Street to make sure every child has equal opportunities to succeed – regardless of their background or where they live.

“Because I believe that talent and genius is evenly distributed but so often opportunity is not, and my job is to change this.”

He added: “This investment will give schools, teachers and parents the certainty to plan, helping further improve standards and ensure our children and young people get a truly world-class education.”

Boris has gone on a massive spending splurge on schools, hospitals and cops ahead of an expected snap election later this year.

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson said: “Our continuing investment in education, coupled with a bold reform agenda and the work of Ofsted will supercharge the ongoing rise in school standards.”
