Boris Johnson to earn £700k from marital home – as he buys £1.3m pile with new lover

Boris Johnson could make £700,000 profit from the sale of his marital home – after buying another property with his new girlfriend Carrie Symonds.

Ms Symonds is expected to move into 10 Downing Street with Mr Johnson if he wins the Tory leadership election tomorrow, with the frontrunner allegedly already requesting new taxpayer-funded furniture for the property.

However, the pair are also said to have bought a £1.3million house in Camberwell, south London, where they can ‘put down roots’.

Mr Johnson and estranged wife Marina Wheeler have received an offer “very close to the asking price” on the £3.75million home they shared.

Speaking about the home Mr Johnson will share with his new girlfriend, a source told The Sun : “Boris and Carrie wanted to buy somewhere together as a sign of their commitment and where they could put down roots together.

“They will get married when they can — and use this place as a marital home.”

Mr Johnson and his soon-to-be ex-wife could make £700,000 each from the sale of their marital home, if the expected profits on the Grade-II listed property in Islington, North London, were split equally.

They bought the five-storey property for £2.3million in 2009.

If Mr Johnson wins the Tory leadership race and he moves into No 10, he and Ms Symonds could rent out their new three-storey, Victorian property – potentially netting tens of thousands of pounds a year.

The pair are expected to live in Downing Street – and Mr Johnson has allegedly already told Downing Street officials he will need a new bed and other items for the PM’s official flat.

It is thought most of his furniture is still in the hands of his estranged wife at their marital home.

A Downing Street source told the Mail on Sunday about Mr Johnson’s furniture requests: “We were very surprised as he is not exactly a poor man, is he? His bill is quite toppy.”

But a source close to Mr Johnson hit back, saying the claims were “nonsense” and that he would be taking his own items to No10.

They insisted he had not requested any furniture.

Mr Johnson, who has pocketed over £830,000 since resigning as Foreign Secretary a year ago, faced demands to reveal how much of taxpayers’ money had been spent.

Former Liberal Democrat Cabinet Minister Sir Ed Davey said he will write to the Cabinet Office to demand to know how much had been spent on Mr Johnson’s furniture.

Mr Johnson and Ms Symonds’s new home is a mile from her flat, where last month the pair had a blazing row which led to neighbours calling the police.

Neither Mr Johnson nor his girlfriend have returned to the property since the scandal broke, it is claimed.

She told friends that she was too scared of a ‘hate mob’ targeting her if she went back to her flat.

One resident on her street also said Ms Symonds’ mum was furious with her neighbour for recording her row with Mr Johnson.

Wayne Moseley, 47, told The Sun: “She wonders whether people have been recording her for months, trying to get dirt on Boris. Carrie was really scared and upset by the whole thing.”

Mr Johnson was slammed last year for refusing to leave the Foreign Secretary’s £20million grace-and-favour home in central London, despite quitting the Cabinet.

He squatted in the property for two weeks.

As he prepares to move into his next Government-owned home, he faces the prospect of long-serving ministers resigning rather than be in his Cabinet as he steers a course towards a hard Brexit .
