BORIS Johnson is gearing up for an early General Election to smash Jeremy Corbyn, allies have revealed.

The likely next PM wants to take Britain to the polls while the leftie Labour leader is still in office.

He reportedly fears Mr Corbyn could step down and be replaced by a new leader who is more popular with the public.

That means he is planning for a snap election next summer – two years earlier than scheduled, according to The Times.

An ally told the paper: “There’s a desire to get this done while Corbyn is still around.

“Labour is utterly divided – Brexit is killing them. Labour is in no fit state to fight a General Election.”

During Monday night’s Sun debate, Mr Johnson ruled out holding a snap election before Brexit has taken place.

But he is planning to ramp up fundraising over the summer if he makes it to No10 so the Tory party is ready to fight a General Election if necessary.

BoJo could face a snap poll against his will if MPs take the nuclear option to stop a No Deal Brexit.

Last night Chancellor Philip Hammond issued a coded threat to Boris, telling Treasury officials: “I have a message for the new Prime Minister.

“You have a majority of three – and one of them is me.”

And Nick Boles, who quit the Tory party earlier this year, called on Remainer MPs to “wake up” and support measures to block a No Deal.

The Sun reported last month how MPs fear an election in the summer or autumn because the make-up of the Commons is so unstable.
