Boris Johnson ‘could create new Bank Holidays to help stop Corbyn’s Brexit-wrecking plans’

BORIS Johnson has created a “war games” strategy which could involve creating new bank holidays in a daring bid to force through Brexit, it has been reported.

This comes as The Queen agreed to suspend Parliament in the run-up to the October 31 exit deadline thwarting Jeremy Corbyn’s plot to stop us leaving the EU.

But, according to BuzzFeed News, that controversial move was the opening gambit in a “meticulously constructed” plan aimed at eating up time and stopping rebel MPs from blocking a No Deal Brexit.

Here is the list of reported measures, devised by Prime Minister Johnson and his senior aides during a summer of “war-gaming”, which could be implemented to out-manoeuvre Remainers.

  • Creating new bank holidays to stop the Commons from being recalled during the prorogation period.
  • Deploying a new budget to create debates in the Commons which would further eat up precious time to block Brexit.
  • Filibustering any Remainer bill in the House of Lords which could block a No Deal exit from the EU.
  • Giving titles to new pro-Brexit peers in the Lords in a bid to kill any rebel bill.
  • Disrupt a Commons debate on Northern Ireland power-sharing scheduled for September 9 – a “time bomb” event which could be used to delay Brexit.
  • Potentially ignoring any successful rebel legislation or refusing to quit in the event of a no confidence vote if it is legally possible.
  • Using the prorogation period to “kill” any bill by rebel MPs forcing them to table it again after the Queen’s Speech on October 14.
  • Johnson’s team is also exploring the consequences if he were to advise The Queen to not give royal assent to any legislation which would delay Brexit.

This comes as Boris is facing an anti-Brexit revolt after the monarch approved his request to suspend Parliament to stop Jeremy Corbyn’s plan to block a No Deal exit from the EU.

Her Majesty met with members of the Privy Council today at Balmoral and an order to prorogue Parliament between September 9 and October 14 was made this afternoon.

Jacob Rees-Mogg backs Prime Minister Boris Johnson over Parliament shut-down

Protests have taken place outside Parliament this evening as Corbyn accused the PM of a ‘constitutional outrage’ and demanded a meeting with the Queen to urge her to U-turn on her decision.

Brexiteer and Lord of the Council Jacob Rees-Mogg, Baroness Evans and Mark Spencer MP were the three privy counsellors who met the Monarch today on behalf of the PM.

While the Queen’s decision is a boost for Boris it would have been unprecedented for her to refuse the request of a sitting PM.

No10 would have expected this step and will now look towards fighting a Corbyn no confidence vote in the Commons.

Boris’ bold move to block MPs from sitting in Parliament for around five weeks over conference season will give rebels less time to launch new plots to stop us leaving on October 31.

MPs would come back for a Queen’s Speech on October 14 under the plans, just two weeks before we’re due to leave the EU.
