BORIS Johnson wants to get a dog to join him and girlfriend Carrie in Downing Street, it’s been revealed.
Downing Street sources confirmed reports from the Daily Mirror that Boris wants to get a pooch, but stressed that it will have to get along with Larry the cat.
The new PM asked No10 staffers if they would be happy to get a pet dog for the building and the response was a resounding “yes” according to one source.
The insider said: “It wouldn’t be a puppy. It would probably be a rescue dog. It would have to be a cat and dog that got along.”
Boris’s girlfriend Carrie is a well-known dog lover.
Downing Street’s resident cat Larry is regularly spotted on the steps of No10, but has been also been seen scrapping with Foreign Office mouser Palmerston.
Both Whitehall moggies were rescued from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home – where the new pooch could come from too.
Boris was no stranger to dogs on the campaign trail to become PM either, and was seen being licked on the nose by an incredibly friendly pup in the final days before he entered No10.
It was revealed that Boris and Carrie are set to move into Downing Street next week.
The pair are planning to live in the flat above No11, with Chancellor Sajid Javid in the smaller flat in No10, The Sun revealed this week.
Yesterday removal vans were seen taking out Theresa May and Phillip’s things as she enjoyed a day at the Lord’s.
