Borderlands 3 PC players suffering from serious launch issues

Borderlands 3 vs. PC launch problems

Borderlands 3 was released last night but PC gamers are complaining about a myriad of problems that are making it a less than smooth launch.

Borderlands 3 launched at midnight last night and despite the late hour there were plenty of fans excited to get into the game and start looting.

The launch, however, has sadly not been the best for PC players, as they’re reporting a number of technical problems. One of the most frequent issues discussed on Reddit and ResetEra is that stuttering seems to occur at random, making a smooth frame rate all but impossible. Some fans state that aiming down sights in a new location causes it to happen, but others claim even just moving the camera turns the game into a jerky mess.

A few with high-end desktops are having problems maintaining a stable 60 frames-per-second and are having to fiddle with the in-game graphics options to try to keep it steady. Some suspect that graphic features Volumetric Fog and Material Complexity are the main cause of the performance issues, so turning them down or off may be the answer.

One person is even suggesting turning all graphic settings down to low or off, but at that stage you’ve got to ask what the point is. Strangely, a number of issues can apparently be fixed by closing the Epic Games Store launcher once Borderlands 3 has loaded up – which seems to help in some way.

Sadly, performance problems are not the only thing fans are reporting; they have also claimed that there are various bugs such as players not being able to highlight equipment within their inventory when using a controller.

The bug can be fixed by changing your resolution and then reverting back, but this needs to be repeated every time you launch the game and by using your keyboard to navigate the menus.

Gearbox has yet to make a comment about the issues but hopefully a patch is already on its way.
