Bargain store B&M has apologised after shoppers spotted that they had tapped off the baby products aisle in a store as they said nappies and baby wipes weren’t necessities.
One shopper in Gloucester spotted that tape had been put across the aisle and a sign said: ‘As a business, we’ve temporarily closed these aisles. We don’t deem these as necessities.
‘Please stay safe and remember to keep your distances. Thank you, B&M Coney Hill.’
After the shopper posted it on Facebook on Friday, angry parents commented to say it wasn’t fair that they couldn’t access items like milk and nappies for their kids.
Many have been struggling to get enough in the last few weeks due to panic buying and stockpilers.
One said: ‘Anyone care to explain why these items are not a necessity, does providing for a baby not count then?’
Another added: ‘Omg what the hell, people with children need this stuff.’
‘Don’t think that piece of sellotape would have stopped me, we jump over mountains for our precious babies, don’t get in my way,’ another mum said.
A spokesperson for the store said that this had only happened in the Coney Hill store and the aisle had now been reopened.
A B&M spokesperson, said: ‘We apologise for the misunderstanding, this was an isolated incident in one store.
‘We can confirm these products are back on sale.’
They also provided a picture of the aisle as it is now.
