Blue's Simon Webbe reveals he earned £40k a WEEK at the height of the band's fame

Blue singer Simon Webbe has revealed he was earning up to £40,000 a week at the height of the band’s fame.

In a candid interview with Hanover Insolvency CEO Adam Deering, the boyband star, 41, said he had a blasé approach to money during the band’s early days, before some dodgy deals led him to file for bankruptcy in 2013.

Simon went onto say he’s always believed in paying off his debts and is now financially stable thanks to support from the band.

Simon explained: ‘I was too young and too busy to actually care and understand. I was doing what I love doing, getting on the stage every day.

‘Forty grand a week was coming in. I was glad for that to continue and I thought it would last forever so losing a bit here and there was nothing. That was my attitude.

 ‘(You have) fame and then all of sudden ‘oops’, your tyres get stuck in the mud a little bit and things aren’t coming in like they used to.’

The Strictly Come Dancing star then admitted that after filing for bankruptcy in 2013, he worked hard to pay off his debts.

‘I was bankrupt more in emotion. It was all about ego and having the stamp of approval,’ he added.

‘Luckily we are all tight-knit (in Blue), we all had a plan and we were continuously working and I was paying off my debt because I believe in paying off my debts.

‘Would I want anything different? Yeah, of course – I wouldn’t have wanted to have gone bankrupt but would I be the same person I am now? Would I be as grounded and as respectful? I don’t know.’

In 2013 it was reported that Simon had filed for bankruptcy, following in the footsteps of bandmate Antony Costa who had battled his own money woes months earlier.

The foursome have previously been candid about their money troubles, with figures showing in 2013 that the group reportedly made just £77 the previous year – in which they released a new album and went on a nationwide tour. 

Simon has since bounced back, as after competing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2014, he released a solo album in 2017. 

The star also tied the knot with singer Ayshen Kemal back in August, 18 months after the couple announced their engagement.
