Birmingham’s Hotel Garden Inn is in a fantastic location and has high-quality food

WHAT’S it like? For a hotel next to an airport, this new venue comes up trumps. Beaming smiles at reception, a lovely bar and restaurant area and the location is fantastic – whether walking 50 metres to bag a flight or as a base to explore the best of Birmingham.

Rooms any good? Big, dreamy beds, a safe, a minibar you can fill yourself from the shop downstairs and a lovely bathroom, including huge shower with Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries. It is a planespotter’s delight too.

Eat here or grab a pizza? The choice is yours. The hotel has a surprisingly large all-day dining menu, including veggie and vegan options.

There is also the Recess Bar for al-fresco dining and a high-quality buffet breakfast.

What else? It is within walking distance of The Bear Grylls Adventure, the National Exhibition Centre and Genting Resorts World, which is home to outlet shopping, restaurants, bars and a 24-hour casino.

So you’d go back? Definitely.

What’s the damage? Rooms start from £65 a night at hilton.com.
