Bindi Irwin is taking a social media break to focus on her family and mental health.
The 22-year-old conservationist – who welcomed her daughter Grace into the world with husband Chandler Powell on March 25 – explained that she wants to spent some time with her loved ones, ‘both human and animal’.
She wrote on Instagram: ‘Hi guys, Just a note to say thank you for your support.
‘I’m taking a break from social media and most of my work in the public eye for a month to be with my beautiful daughter and my wonderful family.
‘I feel tremendously grateful to share our life and conservation work with you but I need some time to focus on the happiness that is my family (both human and animal).
‘You can keep up with our adventures by following my family and Australia Zoo on social media.’
Bindi also addressed her followers who have contacted her about how they take care of their own mental health.
‘Recently, I’ve had many people reaching out to share their own stories of working hard to protect their mental health,’ she continued. ‘Thank you for sharing and speaking your truth.
‘To my friends who are dealing with depression, anxiety and other battles every day – I see you.’
Bindi – who is the daughter of late Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin – encouraged people to speak out and know they won’t be ‘dismissed’ for discussing their mental health.
She said: ‘These issues are very real and deserve to be discussed and addressed.
‘Surround yourself with the light of people who genuinely care about you and will support you during the good times and the hard times.
‘Remember there are helplines available. Mental health deserves more understanding and support instead of being dismissed or patronised.
‘You are absolutely worthy of love and kindness.’
Meanwhile, the proud parents paid tribute to Bindi’s late dad as she revealed their daughter’s middle names are Warrior Irwin.
Announcing her baby’s arrival, she wrote: ‘March 25, 2021. Celebrating the two loves of my life. Happy first wedding anniversary to my sweetheart husband and day of birth to our beautiful daughter. ❤️ Grace Warrior Irwin Powell.
‘Our graceful warrior is the most beautiful light. Grace is named after my great-grandmother, and relatives in Chandler’s family dating back to the 1700s.
‘Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my dad and his legacy as the most incredible Wildlife Warrior. Her last name is Powell and she already has such a kind soul just like her dad.’
