Billy Gilmour reveals he received a message of support from Scott McTominay after Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester United earlier this season.

Gilmour has impressed in his seven first-team appearances this term and has made an impact in Frank Lampard’s midfield against United, Liverpool and Everton.

Gilmour has already been backed to earn his first senior cap for Scotland where he could partner McTominay in midfield.

And the 18-year-old admits he has already received words of encouragement from McTominay after United’s 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Carabao Cup in October.

Asked to name his most difficult opponent, Gilmour said during a live Twitch stream: ‘In a game I’d say Scott McTominay, not just because he’s Scottish, it was just in that game I found it very difficult.

‘[There’s] no rivalry, I don’t know him that well.

‘But after the match he did text me and said, ‘keep doing what you’re doing’.

‘I thought that was really nice of him.’

Gilmour also named Cesar Azpilicueta as the toughest player he’s faced in Chelsea’s first-team training sessions.

‘In training Azpilicueta trains like how he plays,’ he said.

‘He’s really high tempo, he’s always working hard in training.’
