Sir Billy Connolly, 76, took on the role of the Grand Marshal at the annual New York City Tartan Day Parade yesterday.
The Glasgow-born comedian, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2013, looked happy and healthy as he lead the procession of highland dancers, pipers, and Scottish clans along Manhattan’s Sixth Avenue.
The Tartan Day parade is an annual event which takes place on the official National Tartan Day in America – a day that recognises contributions made to the country by Scottish-Americans.
Previous Grand Marshals have included actors Sir Sean Connery and Alan Cumming as well as musician KT Tunstall.
Stand-up comedian Billy, who is also known as The Big Yin, was joined by his wife Pamela Stephenson, 69, and over 1,500 participants at the event.
The couple, who have been married since 1989 and have three children together, wore coordinating outfits for the parade which marches from 45th Street to 55th Street up Sixth Avenue.
The Scottish funnyman was pictured in a traditional red tartan kilt with a matching suit jacket and leather sporran as he walked in the sunshine.
His wife Pamela, an Australian psychologist, wore a matching tartan shawl over her left shoulder which she teamed with an all-black ensemble and hat.
The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant was given the fun job of judging the beloved Scottish dogs who are a favourite fixture at the annual event which first took place in 1999.
