Billie Eilish’s music has had a huge impact on Green Day frontman Bille Joe Armstrong, who claims her music has ‘saved lives’.

The two icons teamed up for an interview where they spoke about their success and how to handle fame.

And it turns out the 47-year-old is a huge fan of the Bury A Friend songstress, and dished up some advice in Rolling Stone magazine after being in the industry for more than three decades.

When beating herself up for sometimes having ‘bad shows,’ the punk rocker reassured his newfound friend, saying: ‘For me, it’s learning what gratitude means to you.

‘My life could have definitely gone in a different direction. I’m just glad people show up. Now, if I have an off show, I kind of don’t care.’

He explained: ‘Things are supposed to be messy. Life is messy. I’m supposed to sing like shit one night. My guitar is gonna break. Mike’s gonna annoy me. I’m gonna annoy Mike. Tré’s gonna throw a drumstick at me.

‘But that’s the part of what drew me to punk, because it’s all one big imperfection. It’s like taking trash and making it beautiful. It’s OK to be ugly.’

Referring to the time he went to one of Eilish’s shows, he continued: ‘That’s one thing I really liked that you said to your fans when I saw your show. You said something about not having it together.

‘You said something about how, “you’re in the right place if you’re crazy.” I think about that a lot, because that’s what a lot of people come home with.’

The American Idiot hitmaker added: ‘A song like Wish You Were Gay, that’s just a rad song, but I think it saves lives — I do.’

In the track, Billie sings about being rejected by a boy: ‘To spare my pride / To give your lack of interest an explanation / I’m not your type / Maybe I’m not your preferred gender orientation.’

A number of fans took aim at the singer when she dropped the tune, however, she has since hit out at the backlash.

Talking to PopBuzz, the 17-year-old explained: ‘First off I want to be so clear that it’s so not supposed to be an insult. I feel like it’s been a little bit misinterpreted.

‘I tried so hard to not make it in any way offensive.’

‘The whole idea of the song is, it’s kind of a joke. It’s kind of like, “I’m an a** and you don’t love me.” And you don’t love me because you don’t love me and that’s the only reason and I wish you didn’t love me because you didn’t love girls.’
